The National Labour Market Authority’s strategy
The National Labour Market Authority’s main challenge is to address the shortage of labour in the short and the long run. Besides that we are meeting the challenges caused by the current recession and related unemployment.
We monitor the Danish labour market and find remedies for market failures. This means that together with other public authorities we focus our capabilities and resources on areas in the labour market where employers and employees fail to find each other. This strategy is reflected in our goals and areas of focus.
Denmark’s population is aging, and the number of people of working age is decreasing. This means we must minimise the labour force reserve (i.e. employed persons who wish to work more, and unemployed persons) and reduce the number of people outside the labour force. We must also improve the readiness for work of people outside the labour force. This includes recipients of sickness benefits, unemployment benefits and social security benefits. Our goal is to bring all of them closer to the labour market and reduce the inflow of people to early retirement.
The Authority also helps in recruiting workers from abroad to sectors which have a shortage of labour. This contributes to ensuring a balanced labour market.
